Canadian cyclocross Worlds team chosen

Craig Richey slated to tackle sandy Belgian course

Craig Richey of Smithers, BC heads a team of four slated to contest the World Cyclocross Championships in Koksijde, Belgium. The Canadian Cycling Association announced its squad on Wednesday.

Richey is the only elite male chosen, and the team contains no women even though elite rider Pepper Harlton is ranked 57th in the world, Mical Dyck 60th and Emily Batty has made a huge jump from 148th to 64th. Richey placed 46th last year at the St-Wendel, Germany Worlds. The Smithers rider assessed the Belgian parcours: “The Koksijde course can be summed up in one word: sand.” This means plenty of running.

The Under-23 men’s representative is Felix Bouvette of Chateauguay, Quebec while Yohan Patry (St-Jerome, QC) makes his second trip to the Worlds as a junior. Edmonton’s Samuel Beaudoin rounds out the squad as a junior.

The World Championships run on January 28 & 29.
