Canadian golden in South Africa

Canadian Cathryn Zeglinski struck gold in South Africa, winning her age group at the UCI Mountain Bike Masters World Championships last weekend, in Pietermaritzburg.

Zeglinski, who is from Whistler, B.C., finished the course in a time of one hour, six minutes, 53 seconds, more than 90 seconds faster than runner up Maria de Bernardi of Argentina. De Bernardi was unable to defend her 2012 title, but finished a comfortable second place.

Local Ann Harrison finished third in the women 45-49 class.

Zeglinski works as a physician, and works with the cycling team GSD Gestion Kallisto Specialized powered by Mazda.

Zeglinski was the lone Canadian to land on the podium during Masters World Championships. The UCI Mountain Bike World Championship for elite riders takes place this week, finishing September 1, 2013.
