Canadian Raphaële Lemieux wins 2018 Red Hook Crit Brooklyn No. 11

Second victory at a Red Hook event for Lemieux in as many years

Raphaële Lemieux riding for Specialized Rocket Espresso won Red Hook Crit Brooklyn No. 11 on Saturday after making her debut at the series only one year ago.

Lemieux gave Canada it’s second win at one of the rounds of the Red Hook Crit in as many years. Last year, the 35-year-old optician from Montreal won Red Hook Crit London No. 3 after making her debut at the Brooklyn event where she finished a surprise fourth place.

Her win this year was dramatic with a brave solo attack with five laps to go indicating her aggression in the final. But the move didn’t stick and with one lap to go she was caught. Lemieux’s legs didn’t give out, instead, she had the power to sprint to the victory.

Lemieux won ahead of Melanie Guedon and Margaux Vigie of France. In the men’s event, Filippo Fortin of Italy took the victory ahead of Lemieux’s teammates Justin Williams and Alec Briggs. The men’s final was interupted by heavy rain and wind which the women were lucky to avoid under the floodlit roads.
