Canadians at the Pan Am Mountain Bike Championships

Canadians rack up podium spots at the Pan American Mountain Bike Championships.

The Canadian men’s and women’s teams have wrapped up an excellent weekend of racing at the Pan American Mountain Bike Championships in Guatemala City, Guatemala. The Canadian team included:

U23 Men (XCO)
Cody Canning (AB)

Rebecca Beaumont (QC)

Elite Men (DHI)
Rob Fraser (ON)

In the elite men’s race, Max Plaxton raced to a third place finish behind winner Todd Well of the United States. Andrew Watson rounded out the podium with a fifth place finish. Derek Zandstra finished seventh and Raphael Gagne was 12th. Watson posted the following on his blog after the race, “5th place, very very happy with that, a lot of firsts in this race, country, A race early, wasn’t sure how I’d go. Big thanks to my team mates, great group of people who truly are a team, Havy, Dan, Scott, and Scotty for their tireless support.” On the U23 side, Cody Canning raced to a 12th place finish and Zach Hughes was 26th.

In the elite women’s race, Mical Dyck took the last podium spot with a fifth place finish and Amanda Sin finished in seventh place. The first three podium spots were won by the United States with Willow Koerber taking the win. In the U23 women’s race, Mikaela Kofman raced to a second place finish. (Results are not known at this time for Rebecca Beaumont.)

Earlier in the weekend, Rob Fraser raced in the men’s downhill competition were he placed 14th.
