Canmore celebrates its inaugural Bike Month

The mountain town in Alberta's Bow Valley fetes life on two wheels

The mountain town of Canmore, Alta., is in the midst of its very first Bike Month. Organizers hope that a month-full of cycling events will end with more people riding bikes more often. Recreational cycling is already a popular pastime with residents of the town in the Bow Valley and part of the tourism draw to the area.

To encourage more frequent bike use, there are a number of events on all month, including a basic repair clinic and the Recycle Round-Up Pick Up day – a chance to get bikes and parts at low prices. Both events happen on June 15. More events can be found on the Bike Month Schedule.

Participants can also play Bike-Month Bingo, by printing out a card and accomplishing the challenges listed.

Students at Lawrence Grassi Middle School have embraced Bike Month. Many students ride to school all the time, despite the ice, snow and occasional elk.

Students at Canmore Collegiate High School made their own video, which lists the benefits of riding bikes while showcasing footage of some of the students shredding local trails.

Canmore Bike Month ends in celebration on Canada Day.
