To mark his retirement, Cannondale-Garmin rider — and Cannondale’s brand ambassador — Ted King is being sent on his way in fine, individualized style.

Notably, King and his family are committed supporters of the Krempels Center in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, a non-profit with a mandate to help those living with brain injury. That support takes the form of the Krempels King of the Road Challnge, a charity ride organized by King and his family. As this year’s edition rolled out — the fifth in a series — King’s philanthropy and his long-time dedication to his sport, and his team, was rewarded.

That reward was a custom-painted, personalized Cannondale SuperSix EVO Hi-MOD, whose colour scheme represents the various phases of King’s career. Its blue metallic flake paint job commemorates King’s first pro racing bike, a Cannondale R500. On the seat tube, the numbers “11/15” mark King’s World Tour years, while the phrase “I Am Not Ted King” serves as a nod to his social persona.

At the SuperSix EVO Hi-MOD’s front, finally, a splash of gold adorns the forks and head tube — the traditional colour of retirement.

“I remember when Ted first started riding. I gave him my Cannondale CAAD3 R500 for his first race bike,” his brother, Robbie King, recalled about that first memorialized bike of the former Cannondale rider’s. “The first summer he trained on that bike he had to ride on rollers because riding on roads on Squirrel Island wasn’t allowed back then.” His more state-of-the-art bike, however, is certainly a bit more sophisticated. In addition to the customized livery, the Cannondale features a suite of top of the line components, including Mavic CC40 wheels, a Fizik Airone saddle, a bar, stem and seat post made by FSA, and a Shimano Dura Ace Di2 drivetrain.

“Ted has always been a very special and loyal member of the Cannondale family, beginning with his first bike, a CAAD3,” said Cannondale’s vice president of global marketing, Brian Immel. “It’s only fitting that he continues on to his next adventure with a bike that is just as unique as he is.”
