Chrono Gatineau

A wet and soggy morning turned into a rather pleasant afternoon for the elite men and women contesting the Chrono Gatineau this afternoon as part of La Grande Visite de Gatineau.

The women were off first contesting the flat 17.7 kilometer course. The race was won by Evelyn Stevens (USA) of HTC-Columbia in a time of 0:23:04.65, her team mate Linda Villumsen (NZl) HTC-Columbia was second 0:11.52 behind and Alison Starnes (USA) of TIBCO Pro Cycling Team rounded out the podium 0:44.28 behind. The top Canadian was local Ottawa racer Sue Schlatter racing for Stevens p/b the Cyclery she finished 1:02.91 behind the winner.

The men raced a longer course doing two laps of the circuit for 34.4 kilometers with slightly windier conditions. The men’s time trial was won by Benjamin Day (USA) of Fly V Australia in a time of 42:30.45, Canadian Ryan Roth of Spidertech p/b Planet Energy was second 1:14.89 behind and Canadian National Road Race Champion Aaron Fillion of Ride with Rendall was third 2:06.02 behind.

Tomorrow the elite men race in a criterium at 11:00 a.m and the feature event of the weekend – the elite women’s race goes off at 1:00 p.m. For a full schedule see the La Grand Visite de Gatineau website.
