Clara Hughes continues the Bell Let’s Talk Ride; day 25 today

HUGHES
Clara arrives in New Brunswick. Clara posted this on her Twitter feed on Saturday.

Hughes and her entourage, including former professional cyclist Burke Swindlehurst continued their epic journey across Canada generating awareness for mental illness as a part of the Bell Let’s Talk campaign. To date, Hughes has ridden through what many would consider to be conditions not suitable for cycling. Nevertheless she has prevailed, on schedule and on course. It’s been incredible to follow.

Last week Hughes continued her journey through Quebec. It began in Montreal and forged onwards for the week towards Rimouski where she began day 23 on Saturday. Hughes rode 150km to Edmundston, NB on Saturday. According to her personal Facebook page, the conditions continued to be challenging. It was cold and wet – typical weather for this time of year in the area. In true Canadian fashion, Hughes and her crew persevered.

On Sunday, the tour took a well-deserved rest day. Today will be longer:  185km beginning in Edmundston and finishing in Woodstock. Relatively speaking, the conditions appear tropical for Clara’s ride, a balmy 0 degrees Celsius and sunny, with a high of 10 degrees. Given that she has ridden through predominantly sub-zero conditions, in rain, snow and sleet at times, the distance will likely be the only challenge. Let’s hope so for Clara’s sake.

Her full tour can be followed at Clara’s Big Ride.
