Contador’s CAS hearing might happen after Tour de France

Contador may be able to race Tour de France before his doping hearing with the CAS

Alberto Contador, current Giro d’Italia leader and winner of last year’s Tour de France, may be able to race another La Grande Boucle in July before his doping hearing with the Court of Abritration for Sport. Originally, the hearing was scheduled for June 6 – 8 but those dates are “no longer applicable,” according to his publicist Jacinto Vidarte, who would not say if it was Contador’s defense team that requested the change of date. Contador tested positive for the anabolic agent clenbuterol during last year’s Tour.

He’s always insisted that eating contaminated Spanish beef caused the positive result. Contador was suspended by the International Cycling Union (UCI) at the beginning of the season but was cleared to race by the Spanish cycling federation. If found guilty, the five time Grand Tour winner would lose his 2010 Tour victory and the current Giro title if he hangs on to the maglia rosa over the last few days. He will also face a two year ban from the sport.
