Coryn Rivera of UnitedHealthcare wins the opening stage of the 2016 Tour Femenino de San Luis

Katie Hall, meanwhile, was crowned Queen of the Mountain.

In second place was Martha Tagliaferro of Italy, riding for Ale Cipollini, followed by Lares -Waow Deals’s Kelly Markus of the Netherlands. The stage’s circuit started n El Durazno, Argentina, with riders returning to the finish in the South American city, too. With her win of the competition’s opening stage—getting the third annual race off to a powerful start—Rivera finds herself in the leader’s position, an advantage she takes with her as stage 2 rolls out in Villa Mercedes, Argentina.

That second stage will take riders on another circle route, this time 98.6 kilometres in length.

Rivera’s teammate, Canadian Annie Ewart, finished the ride in 93rd position, 9:13 behind her fellow rider’s lead. Farther back, 20:06 behind Rivera, Ewart’s compatriot Alizee Brien—riding for Team Tibco-Silicon Valley Bank—rolled to the finish of that opening stage in 117th position.

The race returns to El Durazno for the stage 4 time trial, and concludes on Jan. 15 with a 79.6 km stage 6 route from San Luis, Argentina and back again.
