Watch: Crash for Canadian men’s team pursuit in final ends gold medal chances
Local Michael Foley goes down as wheels overlap
The Canadian men’s squad of Michael Foley, Jay Lamoureux, Derek Gee and Adam Jamieson were leading by nearly one second in the final 1,000 m of the men’s team pursuit. Up against New Zealand, the Canadians were riding really strongly until disaster happened after riding more than 3,000 m and opening up a sizable gap on their rivals.

It appears that Jamieson bobbled after hitting one of the rubber track pads on the inside of the corner. After the bobble, he moved up the track through  the corner. His rear wheel caught Foley’s front. Foley, a Milton, Ont.-native, tumbled to the ground while the three other riders were able to continue.
The Canadians won silver but will be unsatisfied being so close to taking gold on home soil as the women’s team pursuit squad did on Saturday.
The Canadians finished 0.982 seconds behind the New Zealand team. It’s not the first time this young squad has suffered a crash. At the track world championships in April, the Canadians went down as they were passed by New Zealand.
