Cycling Canada Cyclisme

Cycling Canada CyclismeOn Monday, Cycling Canada announced the men’s National team for the upcoming WorldTour races in Quebec City and Montreal on Sept. 12th and 14th respectively. Canada’s first Olympic cycling medalist and former wearer of the Tour de France’s yellow jersey Steve Bauer will manage the team after a one year hiatus away from the race.

The team will be headlined by 2012 Canadian National road Champion Ryan Roth of Silber Pro Cycling and Ryan Anderson (Optum p/b Kelly Benefit Strategies). The squad will feature a mixture of experience and youth as well as versatility. Mike Woods of 5hr Energy who is a climbing specialist will be making his WorldTour debut, while his trade teammate Bruno Langlois who has done well in these races in the past will also take the start wearing a Canadian jersey.

Other younger riders include Pierrick Naud (Garneau-Quebecor), under-23 men’s national champion Ben Perry and Matteo Dal-Cin (Silber Pro Cycling). Garrett Mcleod (Team H&R Block) will also line up after a consistent year and strong results at the Tour de Beauce. “It’s going to be really hard and a great learning experience, I hope I can get in the early break,” said Ben Perry, who has been having great success in Europe as of late.

The prestige of these races continues to grow each year as Dal-Cin was somewhat surprised to gain selection. “I’m thrilled for the chance to race. It was an awesome surprise to close out the season. When I found out it was crazy because I was watching those races live two seasons ago and it never even crossed my mind that I could be in them, let alone in only two years,” said Dal-Cin, who will line up at the Tour of Alberta next week.
