In Vancouver, a cyclist is dead following a “bizarre incident” Wednesday night on the Seawall, reports say.
The incident, the CBC noted, happened at about 8:30 pm Pacific time on the evening of Wednesday, Jan. 6, when a cyclist was riding the Seawall route near the foot of Carrall Street. Nearby, another individual was rifling through the contents of a garbage can, and as the cyclist approached, the other man threw a heavy object out of the receptacle—directly into the rider’s path.
That object, reports indicate, struck the 46-year-old cyclist as he was riding, knocking him face-first into the pavement. Rendered unconscious, the rider was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4 am on the morning of Thursday, Jan. 7.
On Wednesday night, the stretch of the Seawall where the incident occurred was taped off for several hours, with police crews and forensic experts investigating. The Vancouver police, meanwhile, have published a description of the individual, profiled as a male between 30 and 40 years old.
