Aaron Schooler of H&R Block is one of Canada’s most dedicated and accomplished ‘cross racers. He never fails to make the most of his opportunities. In 2013, it’s no different. “I have been working a lot in the lead up to nationals,” said Schooler. His motivation is impressive, which is what makes him such a strong competitor. “I’m gunning for a podium again, and to try and put some pressure on Geoff (Kabush), which is no easy feat,” said Schooler.

Being situated in the western part of Canada is bit of a deterrent for an aspiring ‘cross racer. There is a lack of higher-level UCI races to compete in. “I did a lot more racing at home this year as there was only a select few UCI races out West this year,” said Schooler. “It means I’m going into nationals with fewer UCI points than most the guys, but I’m fairly confident in my fitness level this year. We kind of get shafted living out West, but that’s a whole other story.”

Following the Canadian cyclocross championships, Schooler will travel to Bend, Ore., to race in the Deschutes Brewery Cup. Then he is off to Europe for a full World Cup campaign, which Schooler hopes to bookend by racing the world championships for Canada.
