Dafné Theroux-Izquierdo and Edward Walsh win junior national road race titles

Dafné Theroux-Izquierdo (Équipe du Quebec) and Edward Walsh (Atlantic Cycling Centre) are Canada’s latest junior cycling champions.

Theroux-Izquidero beat silver-medallist Emeliah Harvie (Team Alberta) and third-placed Laurence Dumais (Équipe du Quebec) in a final sprint to claim the national title in the 73.5-km junior women’s road race. The win was Theroux-Izquidero’s second of the week: on Thursday, she lay claim to the junior national time trial crown.

Walsh won the 132.8-km junior men’s road race solo, beating second-placed Jean-Simon D’Anjou (Équipe du Quebec) by 20 seconds to claim the champion’s kit. Raphael Auclair (Promutuel/Alco TMI/Norco) arrived at the finish 3 minutes and 19 seconds down to take the final podium spot.

Both events were held in Beauceville, Que.
