Danny Summerhill and Katerina Nash light up Derby City Cup

Cyclocross

On Saturday, Danny Summerhill and Katerina Nash lit up the first night of the Derby City Cup, bettering the men’s and women’s fields respectively as professional cyclocross made a return to Louisville, Ky., the site of the 2013 world championships.

In the men’s UCI C1 race, Summerhill fought a tight battle with Jeremy Powers, just barely holding off the U.S. national champion to take the win at line. Logan Owen finished third.

Nash won the women’s C1 race by comfortable margin, beating second-placed Kaitie Antonneau by 18 seconds. Courtenay McFadden rounded out the podium in third. Canada’s Christina Smith put in a strong performance to finish 14th.

Sunday, for men’s and women’s UCI C2 races, Summerhill and Nash won once again. Summerhill beat Ben Berden in a sprint for the line. Cameron Dodge came third. Nash finished ahead of Rachel Lloyd, while Caroline Mani took the third step of the podium.
