Disappointing day for SpiderTech in Belgium

Three days after an encouraging eighth place, Team SpiderTech p/b C10 had a tougher day in the saddle in the Handzame Classic.

Three days after an encouraging eighth place in Nokere Koerse, Team SpiderTech p/b C10 had a tougher day in the saddle in the Handzame Classic Friday.

The 199-km race in West Flanders was won by Steve Schets in a group sprint that ended with the top finishers crashing on the line after hitting a spectator.

The SpiderTech riders went into the race with the same strategy as Nokere Koerse, where Keven Lacombe was in the mix in the bunch sprint and finished eighth.

In heavy rain and cold temperatures in Handzame, Svein Tuft, Martin Gilbert, Mark Batty and Hugo Houle worked to place Lacombe for the sprint, but with two kilometres to go he lost position and didn’t have the legs to make it back to the front. Houle was the team’s top finisher in 32nd.

SpiderTech’s next race is in France, where a different group of riders — David Boily, Flavio De Luna, Lucas Euser, Bruno Langlois, Jonathan Patrick McCarty and Will Routly — are racing in the 185-km Classic Loire.
