Disera and Lafrenière win Ontario cyclocross titles
Some of Ontario’s best cyclocross racers met this weekend for a shot at the provincial jersey.
The Ontario cyclocross championships took place Sunday at Albion Hills Conservation Area, outside Palgrave, Ont. There was a total of 150 participants throughout the 13 divisions.
Peter Disera of Barrie, Ont., continued his strong season. The current junior Canadian time trial, criterium and XC champion beat beat Alex Gibson and Ben Andrew to win the men’s under-23 category. He finished eight laps on the 2.7-km course in 57:44.

Andrew L’Esperance of Halifax won elite men’s race the in 57:07, but his teammate Andrew Watson, who was second, was awarded the provincial jersey for being the top Ontario resident. Watson is also from Barrie and finished 57:36.
L’Esperance recently finished second at the Canada Summer Games in the mountain bike sprint. He and Watson train together and ride with the Norco Factory Team.

Marco Li finished third in 59:47.
Julie Lafrenière won the elite women’s race in 42:47. Jamie Gilgen came in a minute later at 43:51, and Haley Smith rounded out the podium in 45:12.
