Egan Bernal first Colombian to win Tour de France

Caleb Ewan completes hat trick on Champs-Élysées finale

Egan Bernal became the youngest man since the Second World War and the first Colombian to win the Tour de France on Sunday, topping Ineos teammate and last year’s winner Geraint Thomas by 1:11 and Steven Kruijswijk by 1:31. Caleb Ewan completed a hat trick of sprint wins on the Champs-Élysées to draw a curtain on the 106th edition.

The Course
It would be a procession until the riders entered Paris at the 62-km mark. Then there would be eight circuits that included the famous Champs-Élysées for the final sprinter’s showdown.

There were the usual ceremonies on the way to Paris. Ineos, clad in kits with special yellow accents, drank champagne, with Peter Sagan photobombing.

It was a big day for Michael Woods and Hugo Houle as well, as the two Canadians completed their first Tour de France. Woods became the first person to run a sub-four-minute mile and complete the Tour de France.

Woods was sporting some neat shoes.

Ineos led the way onto the Champs-Élysées.

A four man move was the main breakaway, but Greg Van Avermaet tried something after it was reeled in on the last lap. However, the day belonged to Lotto-Soudal’s Ewan, who earned three wins in his first Tour de France. Hugo Houle was 15th.

Woods and Julian Alaphilippe finished 20-seconds back of Ewan. Thank goodness there was an award for Loulou.

The Vuelta a España, the final Grand Tour of the season, is 27 days away.
