Ex-NBA player’s colossal stolen bike recovered

80 centimetre bike impossible to ride, difficult to pawn

The Non-Kleptomaniac Thief’s Code dictates that one should never steal anything one can’t fence or use. Thirty four-year-old Joshua Carter of Murray, Utah apparently failed to heed the code when he allegedly nicked 7’6″ ex-NBA centre Shawn Bradley’s 80 centimetre custom carbon-aluminum Trek last Friday.

Yesterday, Bradley’s disappointment and bewilderment continued in the morning. “There’s no way he could have ridden it away,” Bradley mused. He pointed out that the barn from which the humongous bike was pinched also contained seven other more pawnable bicycles and $200 Oakleys sitting in a helmet.

By the afternoon, state probation and parole officers had turned up the black giant – which doesn’t have a serial number because it’s so unique – in Carter’s residence. Carter has been charged with possession of stolen property and felony theft, and is most likely left with abject regret at filching something that only a handful of people in the United States of America could use.

The 39-year-old Bradley has been using the Trek to lose weight gained after retiring from professional hoops. He’s ridden several centuries over the past couple of years.
