First Stage of the Tour of California

Guillaume Boivin sprints to a seventh place in the first stage of the Tour of California.

A number of Canadians lined up for the first stage of the Tour of California on Sunday May 16. This first stage took riders from Nevada City to Sacramento, covering 167.8 kilometers.

The final laps of the finishing circuit were marred by a number of crashes that split the field and ultimately on the final lap lead to a small group separating itself from the pack. Canadian Guillaume Boivin (SpiderTech Powered by Planet Energy) held steady in the chaos at the end of the race and sprinted to a seventh place finish.
