Ruby West takes first UCI win and American Jake Kisseberth win's elite men's race
Canada’s only UCI cyclocross race weekend got underway under unseasonably warm temperatures on a beautiful autumn day on Saturday. Racers from across Canada gathered in Midland. Ont. for the fourth edition of The Silver Goose. In 2017, it received the distinction of being Canada’s only UCI ranked cyclocross race and takes place the weekend before the Canadian national cyclocross championships in Sheerbrooke, Que.
Ruby West (Cannondale–Cyclocrossworld.com) won her first UCI race in the elite women’s category. The Dundas, Ont. native won ahead of Natasha Elliot (Garneau-Easton) and Dana Gilligan (Progressive Sport). Owen Clark of Centurion Next Wave Cycling won the under-17 men’s race while Ava Holmgren won the under-17 women’s race as a under-15 rider.
In the elite men’s race, American’s Jake Kisseberth (JAM Fund) was the top ranked starter with Mark ‘Hot Sauce’ McConnell and junior Canadian champion Gunnar Holmgren (Garneau-Easton) ther high profile riders lining up. It took some time but Kisserberth was able to escape solo and won ahead of American teammate Scott Smith and Derrick St. John (Van Dessel. Brody Sanderson (Toronto Hussle) was the top under-23 rider.
