Garmin-Sharp’s new uniforms reveal World Wildlife Fund as new partner
Garmin-Sharp unveiled its 2014 Castelli jersey. Not only will the back’s use of vertical blue argyle, white and red stripes make the kit more visible in helicopter shots during television coverage, but a little black panda bear also reveals the team’s new sponsor, the World Wildlife Fund.
In a press release, Garmin says that the squad’s collaboration with the famous conservation organization is a natural fit for the WWF, “because athletes and fans can be great advocates for the environment.” The team also points out that last year, a fan in a panda suit pursued Irish rider Dan Martin to the finish line of Liège-Bastogne-Liège. “Since then the panda has been the team’s spiritual mascot, regularly called upon via Twitter to provide help in the critical moments of a race,” the release states.
The new kit also “bears” the logo of athletic footwear and clothing company New Balance. The Boston-based company has provided off-bike shoes for the team for the past three seasons. In 2013, their sponsorship will be acknowledged with its logo on the left chest.
Garmin-Sharp has yet to name its team for the first WorldTour race of the year, the Santos Tour Down Under, from Jan. 19 to 26.
Love the new jersey. The Panda will always be just over my shoulder. Excited to start working with @WWF #PandaPower pic.twitter.com/JMg3ZRPjBR"
