Gatineau Racing Action

Eric Boilly and Joelle Numainville took the top steps of the podium today in Gatineau, Quebec

The La Grande Visite de Gatineau wrapped up in fine form today with top-level racing action for both the men and the women. The day started with criterium races for all categories, concluding with the elite men’s and Masters 30-39 Criterium de Gatineau. The flat course featured two traffic circles which made positioning and bike handling skills the must haves over the 45 minute plus 5 lap race. After multiple attacks that always featured the local Ottawa team of Scott Racing and Spidertech p/b SpiderTech, the winning break got away and stuck with four riders: winner Eric Boilly (Spidertech p/b Planet Energy), second place team mate Charly Vives, third place racer Shaun Adamson (Scott Racing), and coming in fourth Osmond Bakker (LaBicicletta).

The feature event of the weekend was the elite women’s road race featuring teams from North America and Europe. Amongst the starters for 99 kilometer Grand Prix Gatineau road race were HTC-Colombia, Webcor Builders Cycling Team, Tibco/To the Top, Colavita Baci Pro Cycling Team, Stevens Racing p/b The Cyclery, Hitec Products UCK – Norway, 7th Groove/Reform Body Clinic, Team Canada, Specialized Mazda Samson G Conseil, Nanoblur Gears, BMW – Bianchi, Australian National Team, Eat-Clean Diet Women’s Cycling Team, and Equipe Cascades. Covering a 12.4 kilometer course, numerous attempts were made to establish breaks but in the end the race finished in a bunch sprint.

Canadian Joelle Numainville of Webcor Builders Cycling Team took the win with Jo Kiesanowski of TIBCO/To the Top in second and
Modesta Vzesniauskaite of Colavita Baci Pro Cycling Team rounded out the podium in third place.
