Video: Geoff Kabush Olympic preview

Scott-3RoxRacing pro talks about competing at his third Games

You know the pressure is on when the minister of state for sport sends out a congratulatory note about your selection to represent Canada at the Olympics. However, it’s a pressure mountain biker Geoff Kabush knows well.

These games will be the third Olympics for the B.C. native. The pro, who races for Scott-3RoxRacing, is using that experience to prepare for London. Earlier, Canadian Cycling Magazine’s editor Kirsten Frattini had a chance to catch up with Kabush to talk about the London Olympics.

Kabush says everything has to go right to get on the podium. In Beijing, he had some mechanical problems, yet managed to finish in the top 20. The seven-time Canadian national champion says things like that are hard to control, so what he’s been doing is focusing on is his mental readiness.

Kabush says even though he hasn’t been having the kind of success he was hoping for so far this season, he goes to every race with the goal of getting on the podium. The Olympics will be no different.

As for Hadleigh Farm, the Olympic mountain-bike course, Kabush says it’s tight, but not overly technical. He said the Games organizers have done a good job with the venue and it’ll be a great day for spectators.

You can catch the men’s Olympic mountain-bike race on August 12. We’ll also have full results and a race report on cyclingmagazine.ca.
