Geoff Kabush Third At Sunday’s USGP Louisville

Canadian is third overall with two races to go in the series

After being forced to chase in Saturday’s race at the Exergy US Gran Prix of Cyclocross where he finished fourth, Geoff Kabush came out with a bang in Sunday’s race in Louisville, Kentucky.

“After yesterday, I kind of got caught out of position a bit, I wanted to be a lot more aggressive.” said Kabush of the Maxxis-Rocky Mountain Team. “There are a couple of sections, the sand pit was a lot more difficult today so you wanted to go over that in the first position as well as the runup.”

Kabush took over the front of the field on the first lap. “It’s a fast course and it’s really hard to make up time. I wanted to be at the front and make sure that no one was making mistakes. I knew that if I could ride the line, even if the guys were close, I’d be saving a bit of energy that way.”

Put under pressure, the field split quickly on the first lap with Kabush making the front three-rider group. Ultimately, he could not hang on with the other two who went off together with Jeremy Powers (Rapha-Focus) ultimately taking the win.

Kabush now sits in third place overall in the premiere UCI Cyclocross series in the United States. The finale will take place in Bend, Oregon on December 10-11, 2011.

“I burned a few matches early on but then I was really suffering in the end but really happy to be on the podium and third overall in the series. Hopefully I can to Bend to defend that position.” Kabush concluded.
