Geoff Kabush wins Bonelli Park U.S. Pro XCT

Geoff Kabush (Scott-3Rox Racing) won the elite men’s cross country race at Bonelli Park in California on Saturday. The event was the second round of the U.S. Pro XCT series.

Kabush rode away from his competitors mid-way through the race and finished 50 seconds ahead of Sergio Mantecon Gutierre (Trek Factory Racing) and 1:31 minutes ahead of his fellow countryman Max Plaxton (Cannondale Factory).

Other Canadians in the mix were Raphaël Gagné (Rocky Mountain Factory) in 10th place, national champion Derek Zandstra (Scott-3Rox Racing) 11th, Adam Morka (WFP Coaching/Trek) 13th, Cameron Jette (Scott-3Rox Racing) 14th, Jeremy Martin 20th, Evan Guthrie (Norco Factory Team) 26th, Kris Sneddon (Kona) 27th and Marc-Antoine Nadon (Scott-3Rox Racing) a lap down.

Kabush took the overall series lead from Plaxton, who won the opening round at the Mellow Johnny’s Classic in Texas.

Katerina Nash (Luna Pro Team) won the elite women’s race ahead of her teammate and Canadian Catharine Pendrel. Canadian champion Emily Batty (Trek Factory Racing) placed third on the day.

Other Canadians in the women’s race were Mikaela Kofman (Scott-3Rox Racing) in 7th, Sandra Walter in 10th, Maghalie Rochette (Luna Pro Team) 17th, Amanda Sin (Scott-3Rox Racing) 18th, Cindy Montambault (CVM 2 Vals) 20th, Andreanne Pichette (Opus-OGC) a lap down, Gabrielle April (Rocky Mountain/Pro) two laps down and Cayley Brooks three laps down.

The next U.S. Pro XCT  event will be held at Fontana City on March 22 in California.
