Giro di Burnaby finds new title sponsor

The Giro di Burnaby will be healthily funded for the next three years after finding a new title sponsor in development firm Appia Developments.

Jim Bosa, president of Appia Development, is a cycling fan himself and is excited to sponsor the event. “My family has always had a love of cycling and being part of the Giro gives me an opportunity to give back to the city where I grew up and continue do business,” said Bosa.

“We are delighted that with Appia Developments’ commitment as sole title sponsor, the Giro di Burnaby will continue for at least the next three years,” said race organizer Rainy Kent. “We know that Appia Development is always looking to find ways to evolve communities and supporting the Giro is an event that is close to Jim Bosa’s heart.”

The Giro was first contested in 2006 and in 2007 became part of BC Superweek, a group of independent races in the lower B.C. mainland that are organized between July 4 and 13. Superweek is B.C.’s biggest cycling series with $120,000 in prize money available between nine races. Less than a week ago, the Giro’s sibling Superweek race, the Gastown Grand Prix, became part of the USA Crits Championships series.

The Giro di Burnaby will take place Thursday, July 10.
