Former pro cyclist Andrew Randell has opened up a new training facility with longtime coach Steve Neal called The Cycling Gym. Canadian Cycling Magazine spoke with Randell at the grand opening on Friday.

The gym, located in east Toronto, is a place where cyclists train on-bike and work on strength and conditioning off-bike. “Things cyclists should be doing but we don’t do,” says Randell about mobility and stretching exercises, which tend to get short shrift by riders. Randell is a strong proponent of off-bike work; he wishes he did more of it when he was a pro. “That stuff is super important for us on the health side of things, as well as making us better on the bike. We want people to be good cyclists, but really healthy as well.”

The Cycling Gym has structured classes in morning and evening. It is also open for personal workout time throughout the day.
