GranFondo Canada coming to Ontario
Group behind Whister and Kelowna GranFondos expanding to Niagara Falls, Ontario in 2012
GranFondo Canada, the group behind the hugely successful Whistler GranFondo held each summer along the Sea to Sky Highway in B.C., are expanding to Ontario in 2012 with GranFondo Niagara Falls. The event will be held May 26, 2012 and will start near the Falls themselves on the Niagara Parkway.
“The areas visited by the ride in the Niagara Peninsula consist of historic sites and breathtaking landscapes located beside iconic waterways,” the company said in its release. GranFondo Canada worked closely with the local Niagara municipalities and the Ministry of Transportation to provide a dedicated lane for the proposed route. Connecting communities and providing positive economic impacts are important aspects of the GranFondo Canada mission. The 2010 RBC GranFondo Whistler generated $2.8 million in net economic activity for the Province of British Columbia.
Registration for the event is now open at niagarafalls.granfondocanada.com. The price is $225 for the GranFondo event (price goes up to $250 March 31) and $500 for the Alta Classe, which is a VIP package that includes GranFondo registration.
In addition to Whistler and the new event in Niagara Falls, GranFondo Canada holds another event in Kelowna (coming up July 16) and will also expand to Alberta in 2012.
