Kabush and Pendrel podium at Sea Otter

Cross country race attracts international field in California

Canadians put forth another strong showing at the Sea Otter Classic’s cross country race held on Saturday in Monterey, California. Geoff Kabush (Scott-3Rox Racing) placed second in the elite men’s race and Catharine Pendrel (Luna Pro Team) third in the elite women’s event.

Both races hosted some of the top mountain bikers in the world.

Miguel Martinez (Factory FRM ISD) won the elite men’s race, finishing two seconds ahead of Kabush and 14 seconds ahead of Todd Wells (Specialized Racing). Other Canadians in the top-20 mix were Max Plaxton (Sho-Air/Cannondale) in 5th, Derek Zandstra (Scott-3Rox Racing) 12th, Antoine Caron (Specialized Racing) 16th and Adam Morka (WTF Coaching) 17th place.

Kabush won the previous day’s short track event.

Marianne Vos (Rabobank Liv/Giant) won the women’s cross country event, after having won the short track event the day before. She finished nine seconds ahead of Annika Langvad (Davinci-Specialized) in second place and nearly two minute ahead of Pendrel.

Emily Batty (Trek Fac Racing) placed 8th, Mikaela Kofman (Scott-3Rox Racing) 12th and Mical Dyck (Stan’s No Tubes) round out the top-20 in 19th place.
