Kabush stands on the podium at Deschutes Brewery Cup

One week after winning his fifth Canadian cyclocross title, Geoff Kabush (Scott-3Rox Racing) secured a second place at the Deschutes Brewery Cup in Bend, Oregon on Saturday.

Kabush led the race for a lap and a half before Tim Johnson (Cannondale-Cyclocrossworld.com) caught up. Johnson ended up winning the race by 20 seconds ahead of Kabush and an additional 11 seconds ahead of James Driscoll (Raleigh-Clement).

Aaron Schooler (Team H&R Block), who placed second to Kabush at nationals, rode to the finish line in 14th place among an international-level field. Other Canadians in the mix were under-23 national champion Michael van den Ham (Cycle-Smart), Kevin Noiles (Bicycle Blie Books-HRS) and Andre Sutton (Hardcore Bikes).

Katerina Nash (Luna Pro) won the women’s race ahead of Crystal Anthony (Optum presented by Kelly Benefit Strategies) and Elle Anderson (California Giant Strawberries-Specialized). Former Canadian cyclocross champion Mical Dyck (Stan’s NoTubes) placed seventh, two and a half minutes behind the race winner.

It was the final UCI C1 event on USA Cycling’s Professional Cyclocross Calendar. There are three more UCI C2 events including two races at the North Carolina Grand Prix in Hendersonville and the Kingsport Cyclocross Cup in Tennessee.
