Kabush wins short track at Sea Otter

Large Canadian contingent competing in California

Canada’s Geoff Kabush (Scott-3Rox Racing) won the men’s short track mountain bike race at the Sea Otter Classic on Friday in Monterey, California. Canadian women put forth a series of strong performances in their event.

Kabush won the race ahead of Lukas Fluckiger (BMC) and Emil Lindgren (Giant Pro Xlt). Other strong performances from Canadians included Adam Morka (Wtf Coaching) in 12th, Antoine Caron (Specialized) 18th, Jeremy Martin (Rocky Mountain Bicycles) 25th, Andrew l’Esperance (Norco Factory) 28th, Peter Glassford (Trek Canada) 34th, Kris Sneddon (Kona) 38th, Cameron Jette (Scot 3Rox) 39th, Evan Guthrie 48th, Cory Wallace 58th and Derek Zandstra 75th.

Emily Batty (Trek Fac Racing) was the top placed in the women’s short track race, in 8th. Her fellow Canadians Mical Dyck placed 12th, Amanda Sin (Scott-3Rox Racing) 22nd, Carlee Gendron (Trek Canada) 23rd, Laura Bietola (BMC) 25th, Maghalie Rochette (Power Watts) 26th, Haley Smith (Norco Factory) 28th and Catharine Pendrel (Luna) in 32nd on the day.

World road and cyclocross champion, Marianne Vos (Rabobank/Giant) won the short track women’s event.

The Sea Otter Classic mountain bike events will continue on Saturday with the dual slalom and cross country events and on Sunday with the downhill events.
