Katie Compton fixes rolled tubular mid-race

14-time American champion rolled a tubular, successfully got it back on the rim and kept racing.

American Katie Compton was a crowd favourite at the UCI Cyclocross World Cup opener in Waterloo, Wisconsin but got out the gate a little slow. The 14-time national champion joined a three women chase group of leaders Marianne Vos and Ellen Noble. But mid-race disaster struck when she rolled her tubular. Instead of running to the pit or dropping out of the race on the spot, Compton got to work.

A group of spectators on the side of the course got to see Compton work at fixing her unfortunate mechanical. The video posted by a spectator on the side of the course shows Compton trying to get the tubular back on the rim. “Show that tire who is boos,” one spectator yells in encouragement.

“Oh yes so close!” another yells as she successfully gets the tire back in place. The crowd cheers as the American champion rides off. Compton would end as a DNF in the first World Cup of the season.
