From Spain where she is on training camp, Kirchmann shared her pride in being Canadian

Leah Kirchmann’s Olympic dream came to fruition in 2016 when she competed in the road race in Rio de Jainero. Ahead of the opening of the 2018 PyeongChange winter Olympics, Kirchmann had a message to the athletes heading to represent Canada and Canadians as a whole which she shared from Spain where she is currently on a training camp.

“Canadian values create champion athletes! Proud to represent a country full of kind, inclusive, diverse and selfless people,” Kirchmann wrote in a warming message on social media. “I can’t wait to cheer on all our incredible Olympians headed to !”

Though Kirchmann is training in Spain to escape the exact conditions Canada’s winter Olympians excel in, the message leaves no doubt she will be closely following the Olympics. Kirchmann travelled to the warm climate of Spain to prepare for her third season with Team Sunweb one of the top women’s teams in the UCI Women’s WorldTour. In 2016, she finished second overall in the overall WorldTour standings thanks to her consistency throughout the season.

Leah Kirchmann is from Winnipeg, on an undoubtedly wintery Canadian city. She now is based in Dundas, Ont. during the limited time of the year she is in Canada. There will be 225 Canadians competing in 14 events over the course of the games which begin on Feb. 9 and conclude on Feb. 25.
