Maghalie Rochette claims top weasel status at Night Weasel

Canadian national champ repeats 2014 success

Maghalie Rochette, the Canadian cyclocross champion who delighted Canucks with fifth place in January’s Worlds, took her second Night Weasel title in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, on Wednesday night. The elite men’s title went to Tobin Ortenblad.

Defeating darkness with wicked disco lights on her wheels, Rochette (Clif Pro Team) led from the start to take her second victory in four years. Rochette edged out compatriot Mical Dyck in 2014 for the title.

Rochette bunny-hopped the traditional telephone pole barrier, rode like a weasel and took the win by almost two-minutes over Jennifer Malik (American Classic Pro CX). She was pleased with her confetti shower at the finish line.

Last month Rochette placed 23rd in the Jingle Cross, Iowa round of the UCI World Cup and 20th in Waterloo, Wisconsin race.

The Canadian National Championships will be held October 28 in Sherbrooke, QC, with the Silver Goose, a UCI C2 race in Midland, ON, the weekend before that.
