With Canadians starting in three events Sept. 8 at the Rio velodrome, the tempo was high for the country’s riders at the 2016 Paralympics.

It was Marie-Claude Molnar who turned in the maple leaf’s best results. In the women’s individual pursuit, Molnar, from Lemoyne, Que., was the only athlete to come close to getting into the top four, taking fifth in the morning’s preliminary qualifying rounds for the Women’s C43000 individual pursuit. In the Women’s C53000 individual pursuit, Nicole Clermont of Laval, Que. took ninth. Their results didn’t get them into the medal rounds.

The tandem unit of Daniel Chalifour, hailing from Ste-Therese, Que., and pilot Jean-Michel Lachance of Quebec City mirrored Clermont’s achievements rolling to a ninth place finish in their Men’s B4000 individual pursuit.

Action continues on Sept. 9 with the men’s C1, C2 and C3 3000m individual pursuit qualifying rounds, with Ross Wilson (Sherwood Park, Alta.), Tristen Chernove (Powell River, B.C.) and Michael Sametz (Calgary) competing, respectively.
