Bradley Wiggins (Great Britain) of Sky Pro Cycling defended his overall race lead comfortably by rolling across the line in the same group as Cavendish. Peter Sagan (Cannondale) secured his fifth points jersey in California—a record that is likely hold for years.

The final stage capped off an impressive weeklong display by the resurgent Bradley Wiggins, who now appears to be back in top form. The 2012 Tour de France and Olympic champion’s overall win was not unchallenged. Rohan Dennis, Garmin-Sharp’s 24-year-old up-and-comer finished second overall after winning Stage 3, Giant Shimano’s Lawson Craddock, 22, finished third overall to win his second young rider’s jersey in two years. Team Sky utterly dominated the front of the race: Dennis and Craddock fought it out amongst some of the best stage racers in the world.

Will Routley (Optum presented by Kelly Benefit Strategies) was the top Canadian of the week after winning the mountains classification jersey and Stage 4. He seemed to be a part of every major breakaway of the race en route to winning his jersey. Cannondale’s Guillaume Boivin from Montreal was on the front for a large portion of the race working for his leader Sagan.
