Mathieu van der Poel just broke the Internet on the road worlds course recon
Dutch rider sprinted up a 14 per cent grade like an absolute beast
Photo by: @CyclingWorldsThe pro men are in Glasgow getting ready for the big race on Sunday, which means a few laps around the course. On Friday, one of the favourites for the rainbow jersey did a little opener up Montrose Street, and boy oh boy, he flew up it.
I am once again asking you to appreciate Mathieu van Der Poel’s insane skills
It’s a short climb, 200 m long that begins at 6 per cent and is a steep 14 per cent at the top, but MvdP made it look like he was sprinting on a flat road.Montrose is part of the finishing circuits that the riders will hit after riding from the start point of Edinburgh. The race is 272 km long, and will take in the rolling hills of Scotland before reaching Glasgow. Along the way they will go over Crow Road, a 3.7 km hill with a 5.5 per cent grade. But the action will probably take place when they hit the Glasgow circuit, which comes after covering 120 km.
Montrose may be a spot where a move is made, and if MvdP’s warm-up ride may be a sign he’s looking good for an incredible ride. As you can imagine, this clip is making its rounds on Twitter. Check it out below.
