Mikaela Kofman and Evan McNeely Ontario champs

The Ontario Provincial XCO Championships took place at Horseshoe Resort over Saturday and Sunday. Highlighting the race weekend were the Senior Elite men’s and women’s races.

The Norco Factory teammates Evan McNeely and Peter Disera finished first and second overall.

McNeely was in firm control by the finish, winning with a margin of 46.4 seconds.

McNeely ended the first lap with almost the same advantage and put another minute on the rest of the field on the second lap. From there, he managed his lead to the finish.

Disera was the fastest rider over the second half of the race, but it wasn’t enough to make up time on his teammate. However, Disera finished more than a minute up on bronze medallist Matthew Martindill of Owen Sound.

Marc-Antoine Nadon was the only rider who could match McNeely’s pace over the first lap, but the Scott-3Rox rider couldn’t stick with the winner and lost time over the remainder of the race.

Mikaela Kofman struck gold in the women’s elite race, winning by more than two minutes riding for Scott-3Rox. Kofman rode a consistent race slowly tapering back her speed as her lead became more secure.

Haley Smith of the Norco Factory Team finished second overall ahead of Laura Bietola, riding for Specialized Canada.
