The city of Milton, Ont., west of Toronto, has been selected as the site for a 1,500-seat velodrome for the 2015 Pan Am Games. But delays at Queen’s Park are holding up the $40 million project.
Wilfrid Laurier University wants to contribute $2.5 million for the velodrome, which will be a centrepiece of its recreation facilities at a proposed satellite campus. The university, however, is still waiting for the Ontario government to set its rules on where satellite campuses are allowed to go.
Milton, which has set up a consortium to raise its $17.5 million share of the project, became the front runner for the velodrome after Hamilton and Vaughan backed out.
The Pan Am games organizers want a final deal on financing in place by Jan. 24.
