New arrival: Ridley Fenix SL40
Here is an initial look at the Ridley Fenix SL we have been putting to the test. Ridley was born in Flanders, Belgium, a region infamous for harsh cycling conditions.
Just in for testing is the Ridley Fenix SL40 which pairs racing performance with endurance comfort. Ridley was born in Flanders, Belgium, a region infamous for harsh cycling conditions. The Fenix frame first featured in racing under the WorldTour riders of Lotto-Soudal during the spring classics of March and April 2015. We have been putting the Fenix through it’s paces and will continue over coming weeks.
[divider scroll_text=”30 mm tire clearance”]
The flattened chainstays and 30mm tire clearance (pictured here with 28 mm tires) make the bike excellent for hammering along rough country backroads and offer a comfortable ride without sacrificing stiffness. The Ultegra brakes offer powerful and reliable breaking.

The mid-compact 52-36 Ultegra crankset is excellent for hard riding on the flats and for getting up the climbs.

[divider scroll_text=”Tested on pavé”]
The Fenix is UCI approved as one would expected from a frame being ridden by the pros.
[divider scroll_text=”BB86 press fit bottom bracket”]
The Fenix has a BB86 press fit bottom bracket providing a wide stance at the bb shell for larger connection points to the chain stays. Shimano and other BB86 cranks can be directly mounted on the bicycle without the need of adapters.
[divider scroll_text=”Head tube and aero integrated fork”]
The Fenix has a tapered head tube that is designed to be rigid when standing and sprinting. The internal cable routing keeps all the cables out of the elements reducing wear and tear. It also makes for a clean look.
[divider scroll_text=”11 speed Shimano Ultegra rear-derailleur and cassette”]
The Fenix comes equipped with the reliable 11-speed Shimano Ultegra shift setup. A mid-cage rear-derailleur allows for an 11-32 cassette that makes it possible to spin up the steepest of climbs.

Like many modern racing bikes the frame has slim seatstays for improved compliance and comfort.
The Ridley Fenix SL40 is available for $3,500.00 CAD at Mountain Equipment Co-op . Find the full review in the June/July edition of Canadian Cycling Magazine
