New venues to have national debuts during 2014 Canadian racing season
On Tuesday, Cycling Canada Cyclisme unveiled the 2014 Canadian racing season. The calendar of events shows that the Milton velodrome and the Pan Am BMX supercross track, both of which are being built for the 2015 Pan/Parpan Am Games in Toronto, will see action before the end of 2014. The velodrome will host the 2014 International Track Challenge from Oct. 16 to 19 and the Canadian track championships from Oct. 22 to 25. The Canadian BMX championships will be held on the new track from Oct. 3 to 5.
Another new development for next year is the upgrade of the women’s White Spot – Tour de Delta road race, part of BC Superweek, to UCI 1.2 status.
Stalwarts of the international and national scene are set to return, including UCI mountain biking World Cup at Mont-Sainte-Anne, Que., and the UCI para road World Cup. After its inaugural run this past September, Tour of Alberta will return in 2014 (Sept. 2 to 7). The Grands Prix Cyclistes de Québec et de Montréal will bring the WorldTour to Canada for a fifth year in a row.
“Once again, Canada’s best cyclists will be treated to some exciting races and amazing development opportunities across all cycling sports,” Mathieu Boucher, performance development director at Cycling Canada, said in a statement.
