Numainville podiums at Redlands

Montreal rider climbs the GC every stage to come third

Joelle Numainville hauled her way up the general classification every day of the four stage, US national series Redlands Bicycle Classic in Redlands, California to finish in third place.

Numainville, racing for Optum Pro Cycling-Kelly Benefit Strategies, started the elite women’s side of the Redlands with a 12th place showing in the 5-kilometre prologue time trial before coming runner-up in Friday’s road race to Loren Rowney (Specialized-lululemon), taking her to eighth.

The rider from Montreal avoided a crash at the end of the last lap to win Saturday’s criterium, a victory that bumped her to fourth. On Sunday, Joelle again was runner-up, this time to Alison Powers (Now and Novartis for MS) who finished second on GC.

The women’s GC winner was Megan Guarnier (Tibco To the Top) and the best male was Phil Gaimon (Kenda/5-hour Energy).
