Nyhaug fifth at BMX world championships

Canadian rebounds from injury to race in eight weeks

Canadian Tory Nyhaug rebounded from a torn ligament and broken wrist to compete at the 2013 BMX world championships in Auckland, New Zealand. Nyhaug finished fifth overall, having advanced to the final heat.

Just eight weeks before the worlds, Canada’s star BMX rider broke his wrist and tore a ligament in his knee during training. Despite the setback, Nyhaug worked to return to form in time to race in Auckland.

During the time trial portion of competition, Nyhaug hid his face on his handlebars, and struggled to finish his run, taking 11th place overall. In the main supercross races, Nyhaug advanced to the main final heat, but accidentally unclipped during the run, crossing the finish line in fifth.

“Wasn’t the fairy tale ending I hoped for in the final, unclipped and finished fifth. I’ll wear my world No. 5 next year with pride,” posted Nyhaug, on his Facebook fan page.
