Paxton’s Lights of Hope

Paxton's Light of HopeThe 2013 Canadian road champion Zach Bell is one of Canada’s top professional cyclists, an Olympian, husband and father. On September 13, Bell won his last race of the season after a tumultuous year, one month before the birth date of his late son Paxton. Bell dedicated his win to his son and newborn baby daughter Lucy.

Almost two years ago, Bell and his wife Rebecca endured a horrific tragedy during the birth of their first son Paxton. A complication with the umbilical cord during birth inhibited the flow of oxygen to Paxton’s blood stream thus causing an acute, severe brain event. Paxton remained on life support for two days following the incident and ultimately succumbed to his ailments after doctors determined there was nothing more they could do.

As devastating as this event was, the legacy of the BC Women’s Hospital, where the incident occurred has remained in the Bell’s minds. They are grateful for their care, attention and support during what was a great time of need. For the second year in a row, as a means to give back to the BC Women’s Hospital and to remember their lost son Paxton, Rebbecca and Zach Bell are once again running the Paxton’s Lights of Hope campaign.

For sale are special edition Paxton’s Lights of Hope candles. Proceeds from the sales will go directly to the BC Women’s Hospital Newborn ICU to help fund the purchase of critical equipment needs. Candles can be purchased directly from the Granville Island Candle Company. The Granville Candle Company is based in the Okanagan Valley, they specialized in making soy candles.
