Pendrel breaks collarbone ahead of World Cup opener

Catharine Pendrel

Former mountain bike world champion, Catharine Pendrel (Luna Pro Team) is recovering from a broken collarbone sustained while on a training ride on Tuesday, April Fool’s Day.

“The second worst thing about breaking your collarbone on April 1st is having to convince people it’s not a bad joke,” she said in a post on her team’s website. “Thank you for all the notes of support and encouragement.  I’m feeling good and way better off than after last year’s crash. Looking forward to getting back soon!”

She will miss out on the first UCI World Cup held from April 10-13 in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa and the second round held from April 24-27 in Cairns, Australia.

According to a Luna Pro Team press release, she does not need surgery and is expected to make a full recovery in six weeks. She hopes to race well at the Mont-Sainte-Anne World Cup held from July 31 to August 3 in Quebec.
