Plaxton wins Whiskey Off-Road Fat Tire Criterium

Canadian mountain bikers in Arizona

Max Plaxton (Sho-Air/Cannondale) won the Whiskey Off-Road Fat Tire Criterium on Saturday in Arizona. The national mountain bike champion crossed the finish line ahead of fellow countryman and defending champion Geoff Kabush (Scott-3Rox Racing).

Sid Taberlay (Kenda) round out the podium in 3rd place, Spencer Paxson (Kona) in 4th and Kabush’s teammate Derek Zandstra rode in for 5th place.

The event kicks off the elite races at the Whiskey Off-Road, a mountain bike festival held over three days in Prescott. The men competed for 20 minutes plus three laps on a paved circuit riding mountain bikes.

Katerina Nash (Luna Pro) won the women’s event ahead of Lesley Paterson (Scott Bikes) and Chloe Woodruff (Crankbrothers). Mical Dyck (Stan’s No Tubes) was the top Canadian finishing the race in 10th place.

The weekend concludes with the elite Whiskey Off-Road Pro 50 Proof mountain bike races on Sunday.
