Powers wins inaugural Tour Femenino de San Luis

As the Tour de San Luis gets underway for the pro men, the inaugural Tour Femenino de San Luis recently wrapped up with Alison Powers (UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling) securing the overall victory. The UCI 2.2 stage race concluded on Saturday in downtown San Luis, Argentina.

The American won the overall title by 2:22 minutes ahead of Brazilian duo Fernanda Da Silva Souza and Clemilda Fernandes Silva, who both race for Bizkaia-Durango.

The five-day race started in Villa Mercedes where Power’s teammate Hannah Barnes won the opening stage out of a bunch sprint. Stage 2 was held in Merlo where Fernandes Silva won out of a five-rider breakaway.

Powers won Stage 3 in El Durazno and after gaining more than three minutes in a solo breakaway she moved into the overall race lead. Da Silva Souza won the Stage 4 time trial in Juana Kozlay. Arlenis Canadilla Sierra won the Stage 5 sprint in San Luis, where Powers officially won the first-ever Tour Femenino de San Luis.
