Former commissaire dies at 78

On Saturday, the Fédération québécoise des sports cyclistes (FQSC) posted the sad news of Pierre Gagné’s passing away at the age of 78. Inducted into the FQSC Hall of Fame in 2009, Gagné was a former commissaire and club leader who played a vital role not only in cycling sports in Quebec but also on a national and international level.

He participated in numerous prestigious events such as the UCI Road World Championships, the Commonwealth Games, as well as working as an assistant commissaire during the 1976 Montreal Olympics.
Louis Barbeau, the general manager of the FQSC, knew Pierre Gagné well during his career. He attested to Gagné’s many remarkable qualities, which left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered.

“Thanks to his unwavering dedication and active involvement in our federation, Pierre became an invaluable pillar for training commissaires. Moreover, he played a crucial role in developing tailored training programs for cyclists holding various positions during cycle races, all with the aim of ensuring well-structured road races. It’s impossible not to acknowledge the impact he had on our organization. His professionalism, attention to detail, and commitment to constantly enhancing the quality of events earned him great respect from all those who worked with him,” Barbeau said.

For relatives, friends and all those who knew Gagné, his twins Isabelle and Marc-André Gagné, wish to invite them to the ceremony which will take place on Friday, July 28, at the Complexe funéraire des Trembles located at 15005 rue Sherbrooke East, in Montreal. The ceremony will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
